Men from the Works and Engineering department removed the roof on Sunday and the road was re-opened. Now engineers will examine the rest of the pink-painted building to see if it will have to come down or if it can be saved.

On Sunday acting Works and Engineering Minister Wayne Furbert said: "It's been vacant for years. The concern was that slates would fall into the road as traffic went by.

"Structural engineers will take a closer look at it and it may have to come down if the structure is found to be unsafe.'' He added: "It would be unfortunate because the building is very old -- maybe one of the first buildings in the inlet.''
