car parts, computer components, filing cabinets or clothes? All these brand new items are going under the hammer tomorrow and Friday in an auction to raise money for Government.

More than 500 goods which residents have not picked up from Customs are to be sold off at Number 6 Passenger Terminal on Front Street.

The auctions are held every two years under the Revenue Act, and the last one raised almost $40,000.

Auctioneer Leonard Gibbons, who is presiding over the sell-off, says there are great bargains to be had because all the items are new.

Business people as well as private individuals flock to the sales -- including some who want to buy the goods they forgot to pick up.

Mr. Leonard said: "It's not like an antique or porcelain auction. There are things on sale like meat-cutters and cleaning products, so a lot of merchants come out.

"You can ususally get a good bargain and some people come to buy stuff they didn't pick-up.'' The preview begins tomorrow from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
