The cross-breed, now impounded in Government kennels, did not kill the goats with ferocious bites.

Instead, he scared them to death by pouncing on them in their yard in east Pembroke, causing them to die of probable heart attacks.

Police, investigating, said the dog was found trapped near the scene of the attack early yesterday morning -- with his collar caught in the goats' tie-rope.

Dog Warden Leonard (Shinah) Simons said both goats were found with bite wounds.

But he added: "I don't believe they were sufficient to have caused the deaths. It is more likely that the goats had heart attacks because of the shock.'' The Government vet is due to carry out an autopsy on the goats to determine the cause of death.
