A call for Government to set up a film and entertainment commission has been made by local artists and production co-ordinators.

Tammy McRonald of Tami Cast Production is helping to launch the new season of AL & Chrif's Original Video Show and said many other countries around the world supported creative individuals in their television, film and entertainment endeavours, but it was non-existent in Bermuda.

Ms McRonald said Government should set up a department which embraced, funded and promoted local talent to compete on an international basis while promoting the Island's creative talents.

However, she insisted the new initiative be creation-based rather than tourism-based, and suggested people such as Kenny DeFontes, Rick Richardson and others could sit on a panel to discuss film, television and music proposals from the Islands artists.

Government could then help fund and promote artists rather than see them struggle to promote themselves locally or abroad.

Ms McRonald is helping to launch this season's series of Al & Chrif's Original Video Show which is searching for a new host and getting a makeover for the new season.

Fresh Creations, producers of the long-running show, are changing the format for the new season to help find and promote local talent.

Currently in pre-production for the 2000-2001 season, the producers are looking for lively people to be presenters on the show.

Each candidate will be responsible for hosting a different segment each week, from Who's in the house? to The Gallery to Vibes as well as finding interesting local personalities or stories.

Fresh Creations will select five finalists that will appear on the series and the audience is invited to vote each week on the programme's web site for their favourite presenter and the overall winner becomes the official co-host for the 2001-2002 season.

Experience in broadcasting is not required, however. Candidates should possess stage presence, eloquence, and a bright personality, and be willing to work unusual hours in order to meet production deadlines.

Top local companies are already lined up to sponsor the show. Dub Poet, Ras Mykal, is expected to appear on the show this season and talk about his new album.
