`Gunmen' drove visitor into harbour
him through Hamilton.
The only problem was, he chose the Government boat Friendship to make his escape, untying it and drifting out into the harbour.
Insp. Peter Duffy told Magistrates' Court yesterday that Police spotted the tender and discovered Illinois man Barry Immesoete on board.
"I had no choice,'' he told officers in a slurred voice. "They were shooting at me. Don't you see the bullet holes in the deck?'' Immesoete had apparently been drinking heavily, said Insp. Duffy.
Immesoete, on honeymoon with his wife, admitted removing the boat on Saturday night and was fined $100.
Miss Elizabeth Christopher, defending, said Immeseote had been chased by other tourists. He told Police he was being shot at so they would take him seriously, she said.
