Hamilton's gourmet hideaway

"Fisch's Place'', is one of Hamilton's best kept secret restaurants, until now. Open seven days a week, it is a charming place, quietly located on 22 Richmond Road in the Mariner's Club.

It is a tranquil haven tucked away from all the hustle and bustle, yet within walking distance to town.

The cordial manager, Austrian born, Gunter Fischbacher, explained about the name of the restaurant: "When I was a young boy playing tennis and soccer my friends called me `Fisch', pronounced just like the English word, fish. It has stuck with me so I decided to call the restaurant, `Fisch's Place'.'' Fisch's Place offers delicious international cuisine prepared by managing head chef, Julius Nigg, who was born in Switzerland and has years of extensive cooking experience in Europe and Bermuda.

Fisch's provides an alfresco opportunity or cozy dining inside with a nautical theme. The ceiling displays cedar beams covered with fish netting. Music plays softly in the background.

Sunday is the only day which a sumptuous breakfast is served.

Lunch is served from 11:30 am until 3 pm and offers the usual hot and cold sandwiches with French fries and coleslaw. Ever popular is the "Club'' for $7.75 and the "Chicken Salad''.

Main dishes such as "Original English Fish and Chips'' in newspaper with malt vinegar can be had for $11.50.

Other main dinner dishes include selections like "Bermuda Wahoo'' panfried in lemon butter sauce, parsley potatoes and vegetables for $19.00, "Fettucine Alfredo - ham, mushroom, prepared in a light cream sauce for $13.50.

"During the fall I will be introducing our game menu during evening to offer entrees like "Pheasant Normandie'' served on a bed of sauteed apples topped with a calvados sauce and raisins for $22.50 and "Ostrich Fillet Wellington'', game rolled in puff pastry and baked golden brown, served with a morille-sauce for $26.50,'' advised Mr. Fischbacher.

Lobster specials are back at Fisch's Place.
