The Angel Tree Programme solicits donations to buy gifts for the children of inmates.

The children are given an Angel Tree card on which they write gift wishes.

Purchases are arranged and delivered to the children's houses as gifts from their parents in time for Christmas.

More than 80 children were volunteered by inmates to participate in this year's programme, and coordinator Earlene Blyden said most children will receive more than one Christmas present.

She said she was "overwhelmed'' by public support this year -- and noted that 12 churches participated in the drive.
