they become part of a two-way link-up with experts at one of the world's largest health-care companies.

The link-up -- organised by Bermuda-based Corange Limited -- is part of a two-day, hands-on orientation programme at the college called Science Institute.

The Institute, which is being held at the Corange Science Centre in New Hall and the Stonington campus, was designed to give those entering the post-secondary environment for the first time an overview of what science courses and programmes of study are about.

It also gives insights into career opportunities in Bermuda and elsewhere that, through today's link-up, students will be able to gain knowledge from high-ranking experts at Boehringer Mannheim in Germany, which is the operating subsidiary of Corange.

With the topic of "Biotechnology and its use in the development of pharmaceuticals'' the 20-minute mini-conference will be held in the college's new, "state-of-the-art'', video-conference centre.

Students will also have the opportunity to talk briefly about careers in the "mushrooming'' area of science, organisers said.

During the programme students will also be participating in interactive discussions with a panel of local professionals from science-related fields, hands-on tours of laboratories in the Corange Science Centre, lab demonstrations and experiments.

They will also have the opportunity to take part in sessions with college faculty on topics such as "Science in Everyday Life'', "Careers in Science'', and "Mathematics in Science''.
