his deportation, it was revealed yesterday.

In a startling development, it appears Byfield and his Bermudian wife Sherrylyn Byfield -- because they filed the writ jointly -- want to be together.

Last October, Byfield was found guilty of unlawfully wounding his wife and sentenced to one year in jail. Medical evidence entered at the trial indicated Mrs. Byfield suffered deep lacerations across her front and back, wrists, and her left thumb was 90-percent amputated when her husband pulled a machete from his waistband and attacked her on February 8, 1996.

The writ, which cites Commissioner of Police, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Acting Deputy Governor and Cabinet, was filed in respect of Byfield's deportation order.

A judicial review of the deportation order is scheduled for Tuesday.

Byfield was scheduled to be released on Monday.

But a source close to the matter who preferred not to be named, said that Byfield will remain in jail until the matter is resolved.
