HIV-accused refused bail

HIV-positive -- an offence which could carry a 30-year prison sentence -- was denied bail on Friday.
The 37-year-old Pembroke man had previously been charged with serious sexual assault -- a charge which can only be heard in the Supreme Court for which he was not required to enter a plea.
The man was brought before Senior Magistrate Will Francis for a preliminary inquiry yesterday. Mr. Francis determined there was sufficient evidence for the case to be tried in Supreme Court.
Lawyer Victoria Pearman's application for bail was turned down.
