during the early hours yesterday.

The man told Police the attack took place around 2 a.m. as he was sitting on a wall at Blackwatch Pass, waiting for Police to arrive on another matter.

He said he suddenly saw two men, wearing black track suits with white stripes down the sleeves, running toward him.

Both men were carrying white boards, he said.

They hit him across the back of his head and on his body, as he fell to the ground.

The man, who was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and later released, received large bruises to his forehead and the back of his head. He also received several small abrasions to his face and arms and bruises to his thigh.

Police believe the incident may be connected to an earlier altercation the man and his wife had with a hostile crowd following a traffic accident at the junction of Court and Church streets.

Investigations into the incident were continuing.
