Police were called to the home of Keith Gibbons on Sofar Lane on February 2 after receiving reports that illegal pups were being kept there.

In Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Gibbons, 18, initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, saying the dog and its ten pups belonged to his girlfriend.

But he changed his plea after Senior Magistrate Will Francis pointed out that, it was the dog's keeper, rather than the owner, who was responsible for the animal.

Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon, pointing out that pitbull pups can sell for up to $700, asked for the maximum fine of $7,000 to be imposed.

But after Gibbons explained that it was his girlfriend who would get the money from any sales, Mr. Francis fined him $5,000.

TEEN SMASHED TV SET CTS Teen smashes TV set A temperamental teenager smashed up a television with a baseball bat after an argument with his step-father.

Emon Gibbons was fined $800 when he pleaded guilty to causing wilful damage in Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon said Gibbons, 18, began arguing with his step-father at their home on Slippery Hill, St. George's on the evening of November 1.

As the exchange between the two men became heated, Gibbons threatened to smash the TV that was standing in the living room.

"The defendant then produced an aluminium baseball bat and shattered the screen,'' Ms Gordon said.

Before being sentenced, Gibbons, a student at the Bermuda College, explained his step-father had since forgiven him for the outburst and he was now working to pay back the $759 that the television had originally cost.

The Royal Gazette understands Eugene Woolridge is the father of former Progressive Labour Party MP and church minister Trevor Woolridge, who now lives in the United States.

WAR GAMES PLANNED MIL War games planned The Bermuda Regiment is set to mount a series of war games in the west this weekend.

And Adjutant Capt. Eddie Lamb warned that extra noise and pyrotechnics will result from the manoeuvres.

He said flares would be used at the former US Navy Annex in Southampton tonight.

And early tomorrow, thunderflashes will be used as the Regiment gears itself up for its annual overseas camp.

Capt. Lamb said: "The Regiment is very heavily involved in training for its annual camp and some inconvenience is inevitable.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused -- we are good corporate citizens, but the training is necessary.

"This training is vital and the Naval Annex is really one of the last open areas where we can really do this.

"And we wanted to forewarn people in case they become alarmed -- but there will be no danger to the public and we will keep any disturbance to the absolute minimum.'' WATER PLANT PLANNED GVT Water plant planned The Department of Works and Engineering has submitted plans to build a new water treatment works in Southampton.

The new plant, which is expected to be up and running by September, will be on Tudor Hill, replacing the temporary works built in 1989 following a drought.

The system will eventually be able to supply area homes with up to 250,000 gallons of water a day taken from an underground supply.
