friends and relatives of potential disaster victims.

Police Insp. Gertrude Barker, who recently travelled to England to examine disaster planning issues with the help of Sussex Police, said a Casualty Bureau would handle telephone inquiries from the public in the event of a disaster.

It would also take reports on missing persons and help to identify the dead and injured.

A Casualty Bureau and how to deal with the media were among areas discussed at an Airport meeting yesterday organised by Aviation Security Officer Mr. Orson Daisley.

The meeting, one of a series that will include disaster simulations, brought together representatives of the Department of Air Operations, other Government departments, the Bermuda Police, the Bermuda Fire Service, Airport crash, fire and rescue services, air traffic controllers, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, and the airlines.

While a Casualty Bureau room would be ready to be activated at Police headquarters at any time, it would only be manned in the event of a disaster, Staff, whether Police or civilian, would be trained and know where to go, she said.
