being convicted of manslaughter last week, has had an application to be bailed from Westgate turned down.

Pollock's lawyer, Mark Pettingill, submitted the bail application after Pollock was sentenced on Monday, arguing his client should not be put behind bars until an appeal against conviction had been heard.

But yesterday acting Chief Justice Norma Wade Miller refused the application.

The decision means that Pollock's team of attorneys now have a race against time. The next Court of Appeal session sits in just a few weeks and, unless his lawyers can obtain a hearing during that session's hectic timetable, Pollock will remain in prison until November when the next Appeals session is scheduled.

Mr. Pettingill pointed out that by then he would have served more than half his sentence and could be just weeks away from release anyway.

Last Friday, Pollock was found guilty of manslaughter following the death of Craig McGavern outside Flanagan's last July.
