Julian Shiell, of Dudley Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Wednesday to two counts of driving while impaired.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said the first offence occurred on March 10 this year.

Shiell overtook a Police car while driving on Trimingham Road just past 1 a.m., Sgt. Osborne said.

Officers had to break to avoid hitting Shiell. They then turned on their siren in an attempt to get Shiell to stop.

When Police caught up with Shiell he admitted he had been drinking.

The other incident occurred on the morning of May 14.

Shiell drove into Terceira's Shell Service on North Shore Road in Smith's and hit the rear of a stationary car awaiting repair, Sgt. Osborne said.

When the Police arrived they noticed that Shiell was not standing correctly, he was swaying, and his breath smelled of intoxicants.

A breath analysis revealed he had 137 millilitres of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Shiell $400 for each count and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for a year.

Jahjah Robinson, of Naval Tanks Hill, pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Sgt. John Dale said the cannabis was discovered when Robinson was stopped by Police on March 22.

"The rider displayed nervousness and kept a hand over one of his pockets,'' Sgt. Dale said. "The Police asked him to take his hand out of his pocket but he refused.

"They told him he would be searched and he threw an envelope into some bushes.'' When the envelope was recovered it was found to contain "plant like material'', Sgt. Dale said.

MAN WHO ESCAPED CUSTODY GETS BAIL CTS Man who escaped custody gets bail A 32-year-old Devonshire man who has admitted breaking and entering and escaping custody is out on bail.

Manuel Perriera, of Middle Road, Devonshire pleaded guilty to the charges in Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told the court that on June 15 this year Perriera broke into the home of Brian Foster and stole $40.

"Mr. Foster returned from work at 6 p.m. to find that someone had forced the screen in the kitchen window,'' Sgt. Dale said. "He found $40 had been removed from a drawer.'' Perriera was arrested five days later and detained for questioning in a locked room at the Police station. "While he was in there the door was inadvertently unlocked and he seized this opportunity to escape,'' Sgt. Dale said.

Perriera had "extensive'' convictions dating back to 1973.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report.

Perriera will appear again in court on November 30.

IMPARIED DRIVER BANNED FOR A YEAR CTS Impaired driver banned for a year A man who begged Police to let him off for driving while impaired was yesterday fined $450 in Magistrates' Court.

Police saw Edward Marshall, of Lightbourne Lane, Smith's, driving across the yellow line along Middle Road in Paget on May 19.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police stopped 54-year-old Marshall and noticed that he smelled strongly of alcohol.

When Police were arresting him, Sgt. Dale added, Marshall asked the officers to give him a break and put him in a cab.

Marshall was taken to Hamilton Police Station where a sample of his breath revealed he had 113 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

"I was not that drunk,'' Marshall told Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp, before she fined him and took him off the road for a year.

MAN HAD MORE THAN DOUBLE THE LIMIT CTS Man had more than double the limit A 26-year-old Paget man, found to have almost two and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, was Thursday fined $450 for drunk driving.

Victor Reposo, of St. Michael's Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Reposo was involved in a traffic accident on May 23 at St. Michael's Road in Paget.

Sgt. Dale told the court that Reposo drove directly into the rear of a car when it stopped to reverse into a nearby driveway.

"He didn't fall off but the driver saw him lean against the wall,'' he said.

"She saw he was very drunk.'' The lowest reading of the alco-analyser showed Reposo had 207 millilitres of alcohol in 100 milligrams of blood, the legal limit is 80 millilitres of alcohol.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis also banned Reposo from driving for a year.
