After hearing evidence on Thursday, the 12-member jury -- four men and eight women -- asked that they be shown the area of Whale Bay beach where the woman said she was raped.

In court yesterday the jury heard from a sister of the defendant who was friends with the complainant.

She said the complainant came to their house several times to see her and her brother.

"Sometimes she would use me to say she was coming to see me, but she would spend more time with my brother.'' Earlier this week, the woman, who was 18-years-old at the time of the alleged offence, told Supreme Court that the defendant visited her at her home late on the night of September 13.

She said that when he arrived they sat in his car and talked and then he drove off with her. "He asked me where I wanted to go, and I told him I didn't know. He drove to Whale Bay beach and got out of the car. He started walking towards the beach.

"I followed him because I didn't want to stay in the dark parking lot.'' In the area where she said the rape took place, the complainant said the defendant "flopped her on the ground'' and she started to cry.

"He was holding my hands above my head and I couldn't move them.

"I started screaming and he told me to shut up. I stopped screaming. My legs were closed and he pushed them apart.'' The defendant claimed that when they were on the beach, he helped the complainant over the rocks to the area in which he said they made love with her consent.

"She never showed any restraint, verbally or physically,'' the defendant said.

He added that during the time they were having sex she asked him if he would leave his girlfriend for her and he told her no.

"She told me to stop and I did. Then she wanted me to take her home and I did.'' The trial continues on Monday.
