Keep Bermuda Beautiful president Mrs. Kendaree Burgess-Fairn said more than eight and a half tons of refuse were collected from St. George's, Hamilton and Smith's Parish on Saturday.

Last year nine tons were collected from the whole Island, she said.

And 100 divers were collecting garbage from the waters around the Island on Saturday but their amount collected was not included in the final total.

Mrs. Burgess-Fairn said the names of all the divers who participated in the clean up effort "went into a hat'' and three prize winners were drawn.

And KBB would do likewise for all the "land'' clean-up participants at the end of the Island-wide clean-up effort.

Mrs. Burgess-Fairn said Southampton, Sandys and Warwick would be focussed on this coming weekend.
