Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) is holding the annual event on May 13 and has picked a number of locations where volunteers can collect trash.

But executive director of the charity, Lennox Boodram, noted that neighbours could get together to clean up their street or any other area they had a particular interest in.

More than ten clean-up sites have already been identified and Mr. Boodram said he was expecting hundreds of people to be hard at work on the campaign throughout the Island.

"People do not need to go to one of the organised sites,'' he stressed.

"They can choose their own site in their neighbourhood and organise a team of people to work with them. What is important is that everybody takes part.

"The litter problem in Bermuda is becoming more visual and people are tending to lose heart in keeping the Island beautiful. "We need to instil that pride back into them. The people own Bermuda. They have to take responsibility for it and contribute towards keeping it beautiful.'' Mr. Boodram said he wanted to hear from anybody taking part in the clean-up so collected garbage could be picked up and recorded to enable the KBB to calculate how successful the day was.

He added: "If people call us beforehand, we will supply them with garbage bags and soft drinks and we will have the trash picked up. We have to know how much they have collected.'' Litter-picking sites already organised are: Devon Spring Road recycling plant, Devonshire; Clearwater Nature Reserve, St. David's; Radnor Estate Road, Hamilton Parish; Middle Road, between Olivebank and Khyber Pass, Warwick; Astwood Cove, Warwick; Parsons Road, Pembroke; Spanish Point, Pembroke; John Smith's Bay, Smith's; Devonshire Bay, Devonshire; and Ferry Road, St.

George's.
