elude authorities for five days, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to escaping from custody.

The 25-year-old father of two was arrested on October 29, after he failed to appear for trial on charges of causing grievous bodily harm, assault, wounding, possession of an offensive weapon and fighting.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that on Hallowe'en evening, Lightbourne escaped from the Station "while an officer's attention was drawn elsewhere'' in the jail.

Lightbourne was recaptured early Thursday morning in a raid on a girlfriend's home on Devon Spring Road, Devonshire.

Exactly how the Sandys Parish resident escaped from his cell is not known. A full Police investigation is continuing.

Lightbourne was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 13.
