Police spokeswoman Sgt. Andrea Browne said late applications ran the risk of not being approved.
"Once an application is made Police require sufficient time in order to conduct any investigation,'' she said.
"It is recommended that applications be made at least seven days before the event, excluding weekends and public holidays, in order to allow for objections.'' There were 37 applications for occasional licences between May 18 and June 18.
Mr. Tracey Kelly, administrative officer at magistrates' court, said he was personally unaware of any increase.
"We would take more notice of applications for regular licences dealt with between January and March.''
