Panorama, which circulates throughout Italy, recently devoted two colour pages to Bermuda as a tourist destination.

A sub-section highlighting special attractions mentioned Romanoff, the Enterprise submarine and The Lobster Pot restaurant, the latter for lobster.

Mr. Antun Duzevic, who owns Romanoff, said he was only aware of the article when a group of diners from Italy told him about it.

"They said they had specifically come to the restaurant after reading the article,'' he said. "It's a great honour to be featured in such a top magazine.

"The magazine said Romanoff was the `jewel in the crown' of Bermuda's restaurants.

"It said the presentation and quality of our dishes was a `pure masterpiece'.'' Mr. Duzevic said Romanoff had an unfair reputation locally for being too expensive.

He pointed out that the restaurant was currently offering a business lunch special for $14.95, which included a starter, main course and dessert.

"This is something everyone can afford and there is no reduction in quality,'' he said.

Panorama described Bermuda in glowing terms, calling it a `Tropical Lugano', referring to the beautiful Swiss town near the border with Italy.

"Everything is neat, there is little crime and no illiteracy,'' beamed the article.

It said there was little visible evidence of drugs, no disorder and called Bermuda "one of the richest countries in the world''.

Bermuda's banking and business world was compared to that of Switzerland.

One drawback, though, was the local night life, which the magazine said was a touch on the quiet side.
