Fire Service expected.

When seven firefighters in two trucks attended the scene at the Vesey Street Equestrian Centre in Devonshire at 11.46 p.m. they found a car on fire.

A Fire Service spokesman said the firefighters used about 100 gallons of water to put out the blaze which had engulfed the Peugeot 306 sedan's engine compartment and back section.

An estimated $35,000 worth of damage was believed to have been caused to the car which was described as "a total write-off''.

Yesterday, a Police spokeswoman told The Royal Gazette that a 34-year-old Devonshire man was arrested in connection with the incident.

The man is suspected of stealing the Peugeot from St. George's and causing it wilful damage. Several parts of the car were also missing.

Police were investigating the matter.

CYCLE,TAXI COLLIDE AC Cycle, taxi collide A 48-year-old man suffered a fractured toe and other injuries after a two-vehicle accident at the weekend.

Police said the collision, at the junction of Somerset Road and the Railway Trail in Sandys Parish, involved a black Suzuki cycle ridden by the man and a taxi.

The cycle rider was travelling toward Dockyard and in an attempt to overtake a car hit the taxi driven by a 65-year-old man heading in the opposite direction, a Police spokesperson said.

The cycle rider suffered a fractured toe, lacerations to his right foot and abrasions to his left shoulder and hand.

He was subsequently taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for observation while the taxi driver escaped without injury. Both vehicles were slightly damaged.

LEAK SPARKS FLOOD FIR Leak sparks flood The Fire Service responded to a small flooding at a Pembroke residence.

They were called out around 6.15 p.m. on Sunday to a Ferrar's Lane home where a water heater had leaked.

The leak caused water to cover the floors of the bedroom and hallway affecting an area of approximately 20-by-ten feet.

Six firefighters attended the scene where they soaked up the water with a vacuum and a squeegee.

TAXI DAMAGED AC Taxi damaged A taxi received some $9,000 worth of damage after it overturned early on Saturday morning.

Police said the incident occurred around 4.30 a.m. at the Swing Bridge in St.

George's.

One fire truck and four firefighters from the Clearwater sub-station attended the scene where they righted the taxi and cleaned up its spilled oil.

APARTMENT BLAZE FIR Apartment blaze A Saturday evening fire at an apartment in Bailey's Bay, Hamilton Parish, required the attention of four Clearwater firefighters.

The Claytown occupants reported a kitchen fire at 7.34 p.m. after their cabinets and stove caught ablaze.

Contact cement, which was ignited by the stove's pilot light, was the apparent cause of the incident.

YOUTH BREAKS WRIST AC Youth breaks wrist A Hamilton Parish youth broke his wrist on Sunday after he lost control of his cycle.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 5.30 p.m. on Malabar Road in Sandys Parish when the 17-year-old rider collided with a pole.

The rider was treated for his injury at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

VISITOR INJURED AC Visitor injured A female visitor sustained minor injuries after the livery cycle she was riding collided with a sidewalk.

The 38-year-old woman was travelling west on South Shore Road in Paget around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday when she lost control and crashed into the curb near the Modern Mart.

She suffered a cut to her lip and several loose teeth.
