The man was expected to appear in court in the near future.

MESSAGE IN BOTTLE DISCOVERED SEA Message in bottle discovered A letter will wing its way to South Africa after a man and his daughter found a message in a bottle near their home in St. David's.

Angela Whayman, 7, and her father Mr. Russell Whayman were cleaning up the Emily's Bay waterfront when they stumbled over the bottle resting on some rocks.

Mr. Whayman told The Royal Gazette that he took the bottle up to their house, and opened it with the help of his son James.

Inside the bottle was a message from the Justin Lawson, a crew member of the ship Virgo . Lawson dropped the bottle overboard on October 11, 1987, just 350 miles north west of Bermuda.

"The letter looked all right,'' Mr. Whayman said. "But when we removed it from the bottle it ripped because it was so brittle.'' Angela and James plan to write back to Justin Lawson, whose address was in Bergvliet, South Africa.

Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police patrolling Front Street on July 27 saw Franco riding a cycle erratically.

When he was stopped, Franco had trouble putting the bike on its stand and said he had two drinks.

A breath test showed he had 219 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

RIDER HIT WALKER CTS Rider hit walker A Hamilton Parish teenager was yesterday fined $350 for driving without due care.

Damon Hendrickson, 17, of Midland Heights Crescent, admitted the offence in Magistrates' Court.

Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Hendrickson was driving on Cavendish Road, Pembroke on July 26 when he lost control of his cycle and struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian sustained road rash on her forearms, hands and face. She also required stitches on her leg.
