The accident happened at about 9.48 a.m. on Thursday.

One fire truck and five firefighters were sent to the restaurant in the Bermuda Industrial Union building to put out the fire.

Two firefighters wore breathing equipment and used dry chemicals to extinguish the fire, which caused $5,000 damage to the fryer and smoke damage.

The victim was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial hospital for treatment to his wounds.
