The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of sexually assaulting a person -- whose sex and age were concealed from the public -- sometime between January 1 and 31 last year.

Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King refused to reveal many facts of the charge, saying to the defendant: "You know who the individual (alleged victim) is supposed to be. Nobody is going to hear the name from me.'' Mr. Pettingill pointed to the papers in Mr. King's hand and asked for a quick trial date.

"A lot of things flow from it and I'd like to get it all cleared up,'' he said.

The trial was scheduled to take place in courtroom one and Mr. King gave directions that he would try the case.

"Put in courtroom number one,'' he said as he wrote in the court schedule book, "I mean, wherever I am.'' The man was released on $2,000 bail without conditions or restrictions.
