Twenty-seven-year-old Junius Caines was yesterday fined $1,600 after a violent confrontation with Police.

Caines, of Union Street, Pembroke, admitted two charges of assaulting Police officers, one a woman.

He also pleaded guilty to violently resisting arrest and obstruction.

Caines, however, levelled his own accusations, claiming he was roughed up by Police in custody.

Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp advised him: "You should make a complaint to the Police Commissioner.'' Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Caines assaulted the officers on September 14 on Court Street after they approached him to carry out a drugs search.

Police reinforcements were called when Caines began punching and kicking, Sgt.

Mouchette added.

Caines told Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp he had "moved away from trouble'' when Police approached a group of youths -- but was targeted by an officer.

"I had not done anything wrong. There were no complaints about me.'' Caines said he was grabbed by an officer who started choking him.

He claimed he was later beaten and slapped in Police custody.
