Man fined for hitting Policeman
away from Police and attacking an officer.
Worrell Bean, 21, of Junction Lane, was seen on July 5 outside Dublin's Grocery store on Roberts Avenue, Devonshire and appeared to be involved in a drugs transaction.
Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said when Police stopped Bean and asked to search him he started to run and was chased on foot.
After a chase along North Shore Road, Tribe Lane, and Dock Hill, Police caught up with him.
Sgt. Mouchette said Bean struck one of the officers in the left side of his face.
Yesterday, Bean told the court that he was not involved in a drugs transaction. He said he ran away from Police because there was already a warrant out for his arrest for unpaid fines.
He added that he did not want to be locked up for the weekend, as he would have missed a concert that night.
Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp told Bean that fines were not instalment payments and that fines were a higher priority than his social life.
Bean was ordered to pay $100 for running from Police and $300 for attacking the officer. He was also given ten days to pay the fines or he would have to spend 30 days in prison.
