Socomo Trott, of Albert Road, was charged in Magistrates' Court with receiving the Honda City express engine between January 27 and March 4.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that the bike from which the engine was stripped was stolen from outside the Country Squire Inn in Somerset on March 4.

Police stopped Socomo on June 4 and noticed that someone had tampered with the bike's engine numbers.

They impounded the bike and took Socomo to Hamilton Police Station where he was questioned.

The engine of the cycle was examined and found to be that of the City Express that had been stolen from the Country Squire Inn.

Sgt. Grant said Socomo was charged on June 19 for receiving the engine and replied: "I never stole anything.'' Yesterday, Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp told Socomo before fining him: "This activity must be stopped, our premiums rise because of people like you.''
