after he admitted to trying to sell $235 worth of cannabis to make money.

Jabori Gysasiv Ebbin, of 52 South Garden Ord Road, pleaded guilty to possessing 5.50 grams of cannabis on February 15.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister told Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King that Police spotted Ebbin about 11.40 a.m. with several other males, sitting on a wall in Ord Road.

When he saw Police, he jumped on a motorcycle and tried to elude capture. He was pursued and stopped by Police and when they tried to question him, he acted nervously and avoided eye contact.

Ebbin was searched for suspicion of drugs and Police retrieved six brown paper twists, a plastic bag with seeds and an open plastic bag of plant material.

Ebbin told the officers: "The drugs are mine. I was just trying to make some money.'' He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station. The drugs were analysed by the Government analyst and the plant material was found to be 4.75 grams and the seeds, .75 grams.

The drugs had a street value of $235.

Mr. King asked Ebbin how he should deal with him, to which Ebbin replied: "A fine.'' "It will not be a fine,'' Mr. King said. "We must always be mindful of Operation Cleansweep, where people who were found guilty were swept west for up to three years.'' Mr. King gave Ebbin six months imprisonment, to start immediately.

The court also heard Ebbin was outstanding in paying $2,800 in fines since 1999.

He was told by Mr. King that he would do an additional 110 days in prison if the fines were not paid immediately.

That term would run consecutive to the six months.
