Man saved from fire
caught fire yesterday evening. Richard Burchall of Anchorage Road, St.
George's said his daughter, Erica, 16, spotted flames coming from the upper window of a nearby house just after 9 p.m.
"I ran upstairs and I knocked on the door,'' Mr. Burchall said.
"Eventually I tried the door. Troy, the gentleman who lives there was still asleep. I pulled him up and helped him down the stairs. Then we called 911.'' Mr. Burchall said he was forced to hold a sweater over his face as he fought his way through the smoke and led his still groggy neighbour, Mr. Troy Fishington, to safety.
While the fire appeared to have started in another room, Mr. Burchall said he could feel the heat and hear the flames crackling nearby.
Fishington, who was alone in the house at the time, reported last night he was uninjured.
A Police spokesman said firefighters rushed to the scene after they received a call just after 9.15 p.m.
