neighbour twice because he was "attracted to her'' was imprisoned for one year yesterday.

Antrone Leon Simons of Pembroke admitted two charges of unlawfully and indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, said the first assault occurred between March 1 and April 30, 1992, when the girl went to Simons' King's Gate Lane house to play with his niece.

After the niece left the premises and he had put his young son to bed, Simons laid his victim down on the living room floor, climbed on top of her fully-clothed and began rubbing himself against her.

The second incident occurred between July 1 and August 31, 1992, under similar circumstances.

The girl once again went to Simons' house to play with his niece, eventually staying to play with his son.

At some point he led the child into his bedroom, laid her on the bed and climbed onto her.

The girl said she tried to push Simons away, but he was too heavy. When questioned by Police, Simons made a "very frank admission'' of guilt.

He explained his actions by saying: "I guess I got caught up in the little girl. I was attracted to her.'' Sgt. Giles said the experiences have left the youngster "very upset'' and made some psychiatric treatment necessary.

"This is a very serious offence in my view, especially because of the girl's young age,'' said Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis.

He imposed two concurrent 12-month prison sentences on Simons.
