to have three different aliases, Magistrates' Court learned this week.

Troy Burks, 26, of South Road, Warwick, appeared before Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King for possession of a controlled drug and was fined $250.

He was also ordered to pay more than $1,000 in unpaid fines.

The court heard that on December 19, 1999, Police stopped Burks on Crow Lane in Pembroke at about 12.15 p.m. in relation to another matter.

The officers noticed that Burks was acting fidgety and proceeded to ease his hand toward his left pocket.

When officers questioned his nervousness, Burks replied: "I have some herb in my left pocket.'' Police seized a brown paper twist that had plant like material inside. Burks was subsequently arrested and remanded to Hamilton Police Station.

The plant material was analysed by the Government analyst and was found to be 1.3 grams of cannabis.

Mr. King also addressed a series of unpaid traffic fines that totalled $1,150, which he claimed belonged to Burks.

Mr. King asked Burks if he was also known as Shawn Boyles and Burks replied no, that he also went by the name of Shawn Chaney.

However Mr. King maintained that Burks was fined under the name of Shawn Boyles and claimed he was using his current name to avoid paying the outstanding fines.

The court heard that the unpaid fines resulted from a car accident in October, 1998, that Burks was involved in.

Mr. King ordered Burks to pay the fines immediately and fined him $250 for possession of cannabis.
