Formerly a lifeless antiquated office building, Melbourne House is now alive with modern amenities and contemporary decor. Prior to a major refurbishment, the floor tiles in the corridors consisted of various non-matching brands and colours, said owner of M.C. Baron Construction Mr. Manuel Baron, who completed the interior construction work. "The first thing we did was take up all the tiles and even out the floors,'' he said, adding that the corridors were replaced with carpet. "The carpentry work was sub contracted to Mr. Ricky Souza,'' noted Mr. Baron. As well, the bathrooms were remodelled. And all of the old cast iron plumbing was gutted, he said. "We had to keep the building in operation while we revamped -- so we worked a lot of nights and weekends,'' he said. Baron Construction also removed the old tiles from the floors and walls in the bathrooms as well as from the stair wells. New lighting was installed in the ceilings and recess lighting, which was designed by Mr.

Stuart Pearson of Cooper & Gardner, was also used for exit and emergency lights. "We brought everything up to code with special recess lighting,'' said Mr. Baron. The final task to be carried out on the interior of the building was the intricate design work on the architraves above the office doors and elevator doors, noted Mr. Baron, adding that the entire job took about three-and-a-half months.
