Carlos Manuel DaSilva, of Spanish Point Road, pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Police saw DaSilva traveling east on Church Street when he made a wide, uncontrolled turn on to the property of the Fire Station and then nearly collided with a wall on Spurling Hill.

Police stopped DaSilva after he almost hit a curb on Crow Lane.

A 30-year-old man was slapped with a $500 fine and was disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months after he admitted driving while impaired.

Kenneth Andrew McCarney of Boaz Island pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the charge yesterday. Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Police were stationed on Front Street on May 20 and saw McCarney walk out the entrance of the Emporium building at 2.10 a.m.

McCarney seemed unsteady on his feet and the officers watched him get onto a livery cycle and travel west on Front Street.

He seemed "uneasy'' on his cycle so Police pulled him over. McCarney admitted to having a couple of drinks and the officers arrested him. McCarney apologised to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner for the inconvenience.

HONEYMOONER STUNG WITH FINES CTS Honeymooner stung with fines An American honeymooner was forced to pay $500 worth of fines yesterday after being caught with more than three grams of cannabis.

Herbert Ayers Mansinne, 37, from Virginia, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing the drug.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Mansinne arrived in Bermuda on May 16 from the US.

When he collected his baggage from the conveyor belt at the Bermuda International Airport, he was approached by Police officers and taken aside to a secondary search area. Officers found a ziploc bag containing 3.52 grams of cannabis.

Mansinne told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he was "very sorry'' and stated: "I'm not a drug user. I was at a bachelor party. I went home to Washington and it was in my golf bag. I didn't knowingly bring it into Bermuda.'' Mr. Warner told Mansinne that he was "very lucky'' that he wasn't charged with importation and added: "Bermuda takes drug importation very, very seriously -- whether by mistake or not.'' MAN ADMITS HITTING WIFE CTS Man admits hitting wife A 45-year-old Pembroke man was fined $300 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after admitting that he assaulted his wife.

Ralph Eugene Hayward Russell, of Union Street, was additionally charged with threatening behaviour and possessing a flick knife, but no evidence was offered.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Police were called to the scene when Russell's wife claimed she and her estranged husband had an argument.

At 11.45 p.m. on May 20, Russell slapped her in the face, punched her in the mouth and kicked her. He left the scene, but returned later and left again.

Police saw him walking along Victoria Street. When officers stopped and questioned Russell, he said: "That woman is crazy, I didn't touch her.'' When Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Russell why he beat up his wife, Russell responded: "It was a slap for a slap, Your Honour.'' Mr. Warner said: "I don't know what to say about her slap, but your slap is going to cost you $300,'' before handing down the fine.
