Mother fed up with her son -- wants him beaten, jailed

cat-o'-nine-tails for her son who had just landed a $500 fine and a year's disqualification from driving for drunk driving.

Myka Dan Chapman, 19, of Overhill Road, Pembroke, was spotted riding without his helmet on Horseshoe Road in Southampton on April 4 by Police.

He stopped on Scenic Heights Pass and tried to run off but Police caught him after a short chase.

He told them: "I had a few beers earlier.'' Chapman pleaded guilty and apologised for his actions before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner yesterday.

He was given until June 15 to pay the fine.

But then a woman identifying herself as Chapman's mother said: "I am tired of giving this court money.'' Mr. Warner said: "Then don't give it to him.'' The woman replied: "You should give him some time. I mean time, time.'' Mr. Warner asked: "You want to lock him up?'' She replied: "They don't learn. He's not learning.'' Mr. Warner said: "You can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink.'' "Why can't you make him drink?'' asked the mother.

Mr. Warner replied: "If he don't pay he'll be drinking at Westgate on June 16.'' The Senior Magistrate also said Chapman, who the prosecution had said was jobless, should be working.

But the mother said: "He is working. It's what he does with his money.'' "There should be the cat-o'-nine-tails for some of these guys rather than $500.''
