Police recruits survived their Passing Out Ceremony without passing out due to the extreme heat yesterday.

Friends and family sought any shady spot they could to wait for the arrival of several dignitaries presiding over the ceremony.

These included Governor Thorold Masefield, Public Safety Minister Paula Cox, Bermuda Regiment Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Patrick Outerbridge and Bermuda Police Reserves Commandant Eugene Vickers.

Commissioner of Police Jean-Jacques Lemay was also on hand, as well as training and recruitment officer Chief Inspector Vendal Bridgeman and the officer in charge of the training school, Inspector M.A. DeSilva.

The ceremony was held to mark the passing out of recruits from the Bermuda Police Training Department to the Bermuda Police Service as constables.

The members of recruit foundation course 58, who had successfully completed the training were, Adrian Jones, Razi Howie, Cammie Berkeley, Shantia Furbert, Rhonda Jones, Wayne Campbell, Travis Powell, Carol Smith and Michael Donawa.
