And it expects the prison to be completed by September next year, barring any unforeseen delays.

"Significant work has been completed on the perimeter wall and units one, two and three of the Normal Housing for inmates at the facility,'' the Ministry stated.

Workmen have also carried out much of the excavation, installation, and backfilling needed for utilities around the prison's car park and remand/secure areas.

Ceilings have been completed in the medical and segregation areas.

Much of the masonry work being carried out in the recreation section has also been completed.

And work has been completed on the electrical and mechanical fixtures that are required for the secure units.
