Oversized engine silenced in Magistrates' Court
$850.
Roderick Butterfield, of Khyber Pass, Warwick, yesterday pleaded guilty to riding a Yamaha motorcycle with an engine in excess of 150 cc, using fraudulent documents, riding without insurance, and riding an uninsured bike on October 15.
Police prosecutor Insp. Kenrick James said Police were on patrol when they stopped Butterfield on Gymnasium Road in Devonshire.
Insp. James said the bike had an engine of 174.5 cc. The legal limit for motorcycles was 150 cc on older models and 100 cc on new bikes.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis told Butterfield that although he provided a licence and insurance papers, the bike was considered to have none because it was licensed and insured as a 150 cc motorcycle.
Mr. Francis ordered Butterfield to pay a $150 fine for not having the bike licensed, $100 for exceeding the 150 cc engine requirement, $100 for fraudulent use of documents, and $500 for having no insurance.
