Owner of two pitbulls fined $400
let loose, was fined $400 yesterday.
Olatunji Gardner, 25, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to allowing the pair to stray from his home on St. Monica's Road, Pembroke on May 27.
Emma Stamp skidded for 15 yards after hitting one of the dogs who suffered a large gash on its head.
The animal ran out from undergrowth at Harbour Road, Paget, before connecting with the front wheel.
The animal then ran loose in the road but was later caught along with its pal and treated for head wounds before being taken to a pound.
Gardner told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that he had not let the dogs out himself but was pleading guilty because he could not prove that someone else was to blame. But Mr. Francis chided him: "Somebody did it and it's a long way from St. Monica's Road to Harbour Road. They are your responsibility and you have to set up the right security.'' Gardner was also released on bail for $1,800 and ordered to return to court on November 15 after pleading not guilty to charges of driving without due care and attention.
The court heard that Gardner had collided with a red Suzuki car on October 25 last year, but had fled the accident scene with his passenger and had failed to turn up for a June hearing on the case.
