murder respectively in Magistrates' Court yesterday, in connection with the death of an infant who succumbed to his injuries, while in the hospital's intensive care unit.

On August 29 five-month-old Saed Young, who had a fractured skull and broken collar bone, died after three days on life support.

His godmother Sharina Tuzo and Noel Pearman, both of Bob's Valley, Sandys Parish, were arrested shortly after the baby was taken to hospital and charged with the attempted murder of the boy.

The baby died on the same day Pearman and Tuzo appeared in court on the earlier charges. Yesterday the charges of murder and manslaughter were formerly put to them by Senior Magistrate Will Francis.

The pair, who will appear again for mention on September 26, were not required to plead to the indictable offences -- they will eventually face trial in the Supreme Court.

Pearman, who is represented by defence lawyer Victoria Pearman, was charged with committing the murder of Saed Young between August 16 and 26 in Sandys Parish.

Tuzo was charged with unlawfully killing Saed Young under circumstances that constituted the offence of manslaughter.

Senior Crown Counsel Brian Calhoun opposed bail for the pair, who have been in custody since their arrest.

Pearman's lawyer said she would not be applying for bail, but defence lawyer Phillip Perinchief applied on behalf of Tuzo saying documents implied she was accused of "crimes of omission rather than commission.'' Mr. Francis denied bail.
