Several streets in and around the City of Hamilton will have driving restrictions this weekend as a result of International Race Weekend.

The Bermuda Track and Field Association and the Bank of Butterfield will hold a series of eight, one-mile races along Front Street in Hamilton starting around 7.30 p.m. on Friday.

The races will commence from outside the Bank of Butterfield on Front and Burnaby Streets, west along Front Street, turning at the Birdcage, east along Front Street, turning at the Longtail at the entrance to Number Eight Dock and west along Front Street back to the Bank of Butterfield.

As a result of the Bank of Butterfield Mile Race and the Bermuda Regimental Musical Display which will follow the competition, Front Street, between Queen and Parliament Streets, and Burnaby Street, between Reid and Front Streets, will be closed to all traffic from 6.30 p.m. Friday.

Police added that the remainder of Front Street, between Bermudiana Road and Spurling Hill, will be closed from 6.45 p.m. onwards. The roads will reopen at 10 p.m.

There will be no parking on Front Street, between Queen and Court Streets, and Burnaby Street, between Reid and Front Streets, from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Parking will be prohibited on Front Street, between Court Street and Spurling Hill, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Patrons of Front Street east businesses should remember that all vehicles must be moved from Front Street by 6.30 p.m.

Buses will be diverted off their regular route as a result of the race. They will travel up Spurling Hill, onto Reid Street, up Parliament Street and along Victoria Street to the Bus Terminal.

On Saturday several roads in Devonshire and Pembroke will be closed for the Bermuda International 10K Race and Charity Walk in aid of the Council Partners.

Both events, which will feature some 700 competitors, will start on Parson's Road, Devonshire, just west of the Montpelier Road Roundabout at 10 a.m.

Participants will then head east on Parsons Road, south on Montpelier Road, east on Middle Road to Flatts Village, west on North Shore Road, west on Palmetto Road and south on Frog Lane to finish up at the National Sports Centre.

Some roads will be closed and traffic will be diverted away from the route.

From 9.30 to 10.15 a.m. Parsons Road, between Roberts Avenue and Montpelier Road Roundabout, and the entire length of Montpelier Road will be closed to traffic.

Old Military Road, between Cedar Park Road and Frog Lane, and Frog Lane, from Palmetto Road and Parsons Road, will be closed from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m.

From 9.55 a.m. to 10.15 a.m. Middle Road between Corkscrew Hill and Verdmont Road will be prohibited to vehicles.

And from 10.15 to 10.45 a.m. North Shore Road between Flatts Village and Barkers Hill Roundabout will be closed to all westbound traffic.

Police also issued a parking advisory for the Saturday events which will be in affect from 9 to 11 a.m.

Parking will be prohibited along Parsons Road, from Roberts Avenue to Montpelier Road; Frog Lane, from Palmetto to Parsons Road; Montpelier Road, from Parsons to Middle Road; Gymnasium Road, from Frog Lane to Fort Hill Road; Flatts Village, along North Shore Road to the Middle Road junction, and Fort Hill Road, from Alexandra to Gymnasium Road.

Parking for the National Sports Centre will be in the grounds of CedarBridge Academy, the Gymnasium Field and in the area of the Police compound with entry via Fort Hill Road -- the gate will be open at 8 a.m. and closed at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, the Bermuda Track and Field Association will hold its 23rd Annual Marathon and Half Marathon Road Races.

There will be two starts to the races, one at 7 a.m. with some 500 walkers and slow runners and a second at 9 a.m. featuring approximately 500 runners.

Both competitions will start on Pitts Bay Road just west of Barrs Bay Park.

Participants will travel east on Front Street, south on Trimingham Road, east on South Road to Devil's Hole Hill, west on Harrington Sound Road to Flatts Village, west on North Shore Road to Spanish Point Road, south on St. John's Road, south on Pitts Bay Road to the finish line on Front Street.

Half marathon runners will complete one circuit of the course while marathon participants will run the course twice.

As a result of the marathons several street in and around the City of Hamilton will be closed to traffic.

From 6.45 to 7.15 a.m., Pitts Bay Road, Front Street and Crow Lane up to Spurling Hill will be closed. They will be off-limits to traffic again from 8.45 to 9.05 a.m.

Crow Lane, between Spurling Hill and the North Roundabout, and Corkscrew Hill between Middle Road and Crow Lane, will be prohibited to vehicles. Between 8.55 and 9.15 a.m. these roads will again be closed to traffic.

And from 8.15 a.m. to 1 p.m., Front Street, from Point Pleasant Road to Queen Street and from Parliament to Court Streets will be closed. Front Street, between Queen and Parliament Streets will be inaccessible from 8.15 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.

Once participants are well outside the city limits, they will not be allowed to walk more than two-abreast. This will allow for vehicles to overtake the walkers.

In addition to the traffic advisory, Police also issued a parking advisory for Sunday's events.

There will be no parking on both sides of Front Street, between the junctions of Bermudiana Road and Court Street, and on the east side of Court Street, between Reid and Front Street from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Pitts Bay Road, from Woodbourne Avenue to the city's western boundary on Front Street, there will be no parking from 4 and 9.15 a.m.

And the south side of Front Street, between Court and Parliament Streets, will be a reserved parking area for taxis and charter buses from 11.30 a.m.
