Four Star Pizza's owner is considering restricting deliveries to some neighbourhoods following the robbery of a pizza deliverer.

Four Star president Mr. Marico Thomas believes one of his deliverers was "set up'' on a delivery to West Avenue, Southampton on Monday.

He said a caller placed an order for two pizzas, noting his phone was out of order. He used a neighbour's phone but said he wanted the delivery made to his home next door.

The caller added that the house was hard to find and he would wait outside for the delivery person.

Upon arriving around 9.30 p.m., two males, one carrying a stick, robbed the female delivery person of a small amount of cash.

Mr. Thomas said he spoke with the employee after the incident.

"I needed to see her and make sure she was all right and to understand the details of what happened. She was frustrated because she could not do anything about what happened. I have a responsibility to staff as well as customers.'' Efforts to determine who robbed the deliveries have not been successful so far, he said.

"There has been some response, a hint of where to look, but nothing concrete so far,'' he said.

But the robbery -- the fourth in the four and a half years Four Star has been operating, has brought Mr. Thomas one step closer to restricting deliveries in addition to other security measures already in place. These include having deliverers carry only $20 in cash.

The business delivers to 85 percent of the Island, and if management wanted, it could "put restricted delivery in place in a day''.

The area where Monday's theft occurred would "obviously'' be one place restricted.

"That area is not well lit,'' Mr. Thomas said.

Mr. Thomas said he believed other businesses might need to step up their security efforts. Other businesses may be creating "more exposure'' but he said Four Star has to keep addressing safety and security as well.

Mr. Thomas said he was not surprised targeting pizza delivery employees is becoming more popular among thieves because it is has happened in the US.
