Planners to produce signs brochure
by planners. The move follows fierce controversy over illegal Four Star Pizza signs at Flatts.
Yesterday it was disclosed the signs flouted laws banning outside trade logos and emblems. There was also an illegal Coca Cola sign on the wall next to the building, Government officers claim.
But this week restaurant owner Mr. Marico Thomas told The Royal Gazette he had been puzzled by the "take down'' order. Planning officers, he claimed, had given him the all-clear when the business opened in January.
Now Government officers are moving to clear up any confusion over the advertising laws. Dr. James Burnett-Herkes, Permanent Secretary of the Environment Ministry, said brochures on the laws had been produced several years ago.
These would now be updated -- and then included in any future planning approvals. Merchants could also pick them up from the Planning Department.
Dr. Burnett-Herkes added uncertainty over the laws was probably particularly widespread among young entrepreneurs. The laws were governed by the Advertisements Regulations Act 1911.
