The theme for the holiday is "January 4th -- A New Beginning'' in recognition of the first Progressive Labour Party Government.

The day will begin with an ecumenical sunrise service at 7 a.m. at Clearwater Beach in St. David's.

The service is expected to be an "inspirational'' event with prayer, music and reading.

Anglican Bishop Ewen Ratteray and Roman Catholic Bishop Robert Kurtz will head the list of clergy representing various faiths.

Remarks from Premier Jennifer Smith will conclude the service and the congregation will be asked to make commitments in writing to do one thing to make Bermuda a better country.

In the event of rain, the service will take place at the New Testament Church of God on Southside, St. David's.

The afternoon celebrations will begin at 1 p.m. at City Hall car park with the Bermuda Regiment fanfare trumpeters, an opening prayer and greetings by the Premier.

Entertainment will include poetry, performances by United Dance Productions, the Portuguese Dancers, the African Dancers, Tawnee Butterfield and LeYoni Junos.

There will also be a youth corner with rides, art and entertainment. The day will conclude with a performance by Place's Gombeys and fireworks.
