a fresh offensive over the effect of Government cutbacks on the Police.

He demanded that Delegated Affairs Minister the Hon. Sir John Sharpe come clean over the suspension of the Police pre-entry training course.

And he accused Sir John of making puffed up claims about the success of Government's Bermudianisation drive.

Mr. Morton said he had heard reports the post of Permanent Secretary for Health and Social Services could go to a contract worker.

Making light of the plight of Bermudians in the workplace lost Sir John his position at Immigration Minister, he alleged.

"Making light of the plight of Bermudians in today's recessionary climate should lose the UBP the Government -- at the next general election,'' he added.

Mr. Morton claimed Sir John had deliberately misled Bermuda by steering round the issue of the training course suspension in a statement last week.

He also said Sir John owed the Country an explanation over his claims no foreign officers had been recruited in the past year. "Sir John's sweeping statements and exaggeration concerning the success of Government's Bermudianisation policy are not supported by the facts,'' he said.

Mr. Morton said contract workers still occupied two key posts -- director for management services and director for personnel services.

"There are many qualified, underemployed Bermudians who have expressed an interest in these posts and applied for them -- time and time again.''
