Million Man March because it believes that black men must play a greater role in the nurturing of their families.

In a prepared statement, Opposition Leader Mr. Frederick Wade said PLP members should do whatever they feel they can do to indicate their solidarity with the aims and objectives of the One Million Man March Coalition of Bermuda.

Although supportive of the Coalition's aims, the PLP was silent on its call for blacks to stay at home on October 16.

Transport Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert has criticised the Coalition for the stay at home call and branded it as irresponsible. He could not be reached for comment last night.

Mr. Rolfe Commissiong, a spokesman for the local group, has said the march will go ahead, even if he walks alone.

Organisers say the Million Man March in the US is part of "A National Day of Atonement'' to promote greater responsibility among men, encourage reconciliation and organise a spiritual, political and economic rebirth for black America.

It includes a day away from work and school for non-marchers to commemorate spiritual aspects of the day, including prayer and fasting.

Two weeks ago, the Bermuda coalition held a news conference at Progressive Labour Party headquarters to express solidarity with the aims of the Washington marchers.

Flanking Mr. Commissiong at the conference were fellow coalition members, Mr.

George Scott, Mr. Byron X Ratteray, and Mr. Stefan Dupres.
