A ferry and some residents reported seeing the red flares shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday night, a Harbour Radio spokesman said.

Investigation showed they were fired from on land near Hamilton, apparently as a hoax, he said.

The same thing happened last Friday night, and that incident is under investigation, said Police spokesman Insp. Roseanda Jones.

In that incident, Police believe the flares came from somewhere near Friswell's Hill and Government Gate, Insp. Jones said.

"It's a serious hoax, because a red flare means imminent danger,'' the Harbour Radio spokesman said.

Many emergency units move into action, because "it means a vessel is in imminent danger, requesting immediate assistance''.

If caught, the perpetrator would likely face mischief charges, a Police spokesman said.

MINOR WAS VICTIM OF SEXUAL ASSAULT CTS Minor was victim of sexual assault A social inquiry report was ordered by the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp this week after a Smith's Parish man pleaded guilty to sexually asaulting a female minor.

The man, represented by Mr. Tyrone Chin, admitted on Tuesday to assaulting the girl in Devonshire on November 16. She was said to be under the age of 16.

Yesterday, Mrs. Mapp delayed the man's sentencing until April 20.

TEENAGER STOLE FROM GODMOTHER CTS Teenager stole from godmother A 16-year-old girl who stole money from her former foster mother was jailed for two weeks yesterday while a social inquiry report is prepared.

Denika Outerbridge, 16, of no fixed abode, appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday on charges of breaking and entering and stealing $370 from Pauline DeShields.

She admitted breaking and entering but disputed the amount stolen, saying she only took $200.

The complainant, Pauline DeShields, claimed she returned from holiday on January 18 to find her home broken into and cash stolen from a bedroom table drawer, said prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy.

Outerbridge, who formerly lived in the house, admitted to Police she climbed through a bathroom window looking for somewhere to sleep.

She also took $200 from a wallet to buy groceries but thought DeShields, also her godmother, would not mind, Insp. Duffy said.

WOMAN JAILED CTS Woman jailed A homeless woman admitted in Magistrates' Court yesterday to damaging the door of the Victoria Health Clinic but denied burgling the property.

Roydelle Stovell, 38, also denied stealing a brown purse containing $600 from Cynthia Smith outside Magistrates' Court on February 14.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant objected to bail for the woman because of her lengthy criminal record dating back over 20 years and a history of failing to show up for court.

Senior Magistrate, the Wor. William Francis ordered bail of $800 with a like surety on the first charge and on the second, bail of $500 on the condition that Stovell find a fixed address.

MEN ARRESTED CTS Men arrested Police yesterday arrested two men on Court Street yesterday morning for allegedly selling stolen property.

The men, aged 33 and 40, were found around 3.30 a.m. with ceiling fans in cardboard boxes which were believed to have been stolen, possibly from a construction site.

Police were trying to locate the owner of the ceiling fans.

APPEAL TO VICTIMS CRM Appeal to victims Police yesterday appealed for the victims of a robbery reported to The Royal Gazette , earlier this week to come forward.

"We have not received an official report from the victims of this attack and it causes us great concern that a crime of this magnitude should go unreported,'' Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said.

"We would ask the four girls to make themselves known to Police.'' P.c. Venning said the girls should contact Insp. Legay Farley at Central CID on 295-0011.
