Jeff McClatchie was found dead by a friend last Friday in the apartment where he was house-sitting.

Concern had grown for Mr. McClatchie after he failed to turn up at work at Elbow Beach Hotel. He was employed by R F Communications, but was believed to be contracted out to the hotel.

He was last seen on Wednesday, and was found dead at the lower apartment in Valley Road, Paget, at about 4 p.m. on Friday.

Police were called and an investigation was launched to find out how, why and when he had died.

But last night Mr. McClatchie's mother, Millie, who lives in Ottawa, Ontario, said Bermuda Police had not contacted her at all with information about her son's death.

She said: "The Police have not been in touch at all. Jeffrey's boss told us what had happened. We have no information and we still don't know what is going on.

"We do not know why he died. We last saw him in June, when he came back to Canada for a wedding, and he was in good spirits and we assumed he was in good health.

"I spoke to him on Monday or Tuesday of last week. We have no idea what has happened. We would very much like to know more. If any of his friends know anything or could get in touch with us, that would be wonderful.'' Mr. McClatchie's employer Reece Furbert did not wish to comment on the incident last night, but he has been in close contact with the family in Canada.

A Police Spokeswoman said she was unable to say whether the death was believed to be suspicious, but said an autopsy was to be carried out.

No one at the Police was available to comment on the claim that officers had not contacted the family last night.

Anyone with information should call Bermuda Police on 295-0011.
