Police issue traffic advisory for this weekend's marathons
The Bermuda Track and Field Association will hold its annual Marathon and Half Marathon road races this Sunday.
And as a result Police yesterday issued a traffic advisory.
The races start on Pitts Bay Road, just west of Barr's Bay Park in Pembroke.
There will be two start times for different competitors. The first start will be at 7 a.m. for the approximately 500 walkers and slow runners.
The second start will take place at 9 a.m. for approximately 500 faster runners.
The route for all competitors will be the same. The race starts on Pitts Bay Road (between Woodbourne Avenue and Bermudiana Road), heading east on Front Street to the north roundabout; south on Trimingham Road to the south roundabout; east on South Road to Devil's Hole Hill; west on Devil's Hole Hill; west on Harrington Sound Road to Flatts Village; Runners will then head west on North Shore Road to Spanish Point Road; south on St. John's Road; south on Pitts Bay Road to finish on Front Street.
For the finish of the Half Marathon, the runners will complete a single circuit of the course and finish adjacent to No.1 passenger terminal at 41 Front Street. For the finish of the Marathon the runners will complete two circuits of the course and finish adjacent to the No.6 passenger terminal, at Front Street, outside Tuscany Restaurant.
BTFA officials and marshals will be responsible for directing runners along the route and will be suitably dressed for identification purposes.
The south side of Front Street, between the junction of Court and Parliament streets, will be reserved for parking space for taxis and charter buses from 11.30 a.m.
An additional area will be used on the east side of Court Street between Reid and Front streets. These areas will be under the control of a Traffic Control Department officer.
Pitts Bay Road/Front Street/Crow Lane from Woodburne Avenue to Spurling's Hill will be closed from 6.45 a.m. to 7.15 a.m.
Crow Lane between Spurling's Hill and North Roundabout, All of Trimingham Road, Corkscrew Hill between Middle Road and Crow Lane will be closed between 6.55 a.m. to 7.30 a.m..
Front Street from Point Pleasant Road (east) to Queen Street and Front Street from Parliament Street to Court Street will be closed from 8.50 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Front Street from Queen Street to Parliament Street will be closed from 8.15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic will be permitted to travel westbound from 2 p.m.
Pitts Bay Road/Front Street/Crow Lane from Serpentine Road to Spurling's Hill will be closed from 8.45 a.m. to 9.05 a.m.
Crow Lane between Spurling's Hill and north roundabout, Corkscrew Hill between Middle Road and Crow Lane will be closed 8.55 a.m. to 9.15 a.m.
Trimingham Road from North Roudabout to south roundabout will be closed from 9 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.
