pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention while on duty.

P.c. Brian Robinson, a cycle-squad officer for the past 17 years, had orginally pleaded not guilty to the charge and was due to face trial on Monday but last week changed his plea. He was yesterday bound over for two years by Acting Magistrate Kim White.

The court was told Robinson -- who up to that point had an impeccable driving record -- was on duty the early afternoon of September 5 last year, and was responding to a call for assistance from another officer when he was in a collision with a Government bus at the junction of Dundonald Street and Cedar Avenue.

Crown Prosecutor Leighton Rochester told the Court P.c. Robinson was travelling east on Dundonald with his emergency lights flashing -- but had not activated his siren. He overtook a line of traffic and proceeded through a red light at the intersection, subsequently colliding with the bus.

A Police investigation concluded P.c. Robinson was going too fast for that time of day and, if caution had been exercised upon entering the intersection, could have avoided the collision, said Mr. Rochester.

P.c. Robinson received injuries to his lower-right rib cage and caused $1,627.18 damage to his Police Suzuki 500 motorcycle and $150 to the bus. He was the only person injured in the accident.
